Oita City Hosts First Local Shaved Ice Festival 2026

The "Local Shaved Ice Festival 2026" (ご当地かき氷祭2026大分) will be held from 21 to 31 August 2026 at Tokihawa Wasada Town in Oita City, Japan. The eleven‑day event features four participating vendors offering more than 30 varieties of shaved ice, ranging from traditional Japanese regional syrups to desserts inspired by Western cakes and sweets.

Participating shops include the wagashi maker Matsukaze Kanesu (松風庵かねすえ) with creations such as "Warabi‑Mochi Ice" and "Strawberry Daifuku Ice," the patisserie Chocolatier Romant (ショコラティエろまん亭) presenting cake‑style ice desserts, the ice‑cream farm Gifu‑Kawabe Ice Cream Farm showcasing Turkish "Karsunbaci" and Taiwanese "Mian Mian Ice," and the Local Gourmet Research Association (ご当地グルメ研究会) offering Japanese regional flavors and international selections from nine countries across eleven types.

The venue is a temporary hall on the first floor of Tokihawa Wasada Town, 2‑chome, Central Street, Oita. Access is provided via Oita Bus (18‑25 min from the central stop) or by car via the Oita Expressway (approximately 2.2 km from the Oita‑Kōkichi IC) with free parking. The festival is promoted as a summer cooling event for families and shaved‑ice enthusiasts.
