OJK prepares regulations for Real World Asset tokenization in Indonesia

The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) is developing a draft regulation (RPOJK) regarding the offering of tokenized Real World Assets (RWA). This framework aims to govern digital financial assets that represent physical assets through tokenization mechanisms. The proposed rules will cover asset criteria, offering procedures, licensing, consumer protection, and financial reporting requirements.

This move follows the approval of several participants in the OJK regulatory sandbox who are developing RWA tokenization business models. Ryan Lymn, Operational Director of Bittime, noted that Indonesia must monitor global trends, such as the growth of tokenized U.S. stocks, to ensure local regulations provide adequate governance and transparency.

In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has provided temporary, conditional exemptive relief for five years to certain venues to facilitate the trading of tokenized National Market System (NMS) stocks. As of September 2026, the distributed value of tokenized stocks reached approximately $2.92 billion, with millions of holders and active addresses globally.
