OJK sanctions dozens of financial firms amid industry shifts
The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) has issued administrative sanctions to 32 multifinance companies, 15 venture capital firms, 34 fintech P2P lending providers, and six pawnshop companies during August 2026. These sanctions, consisting of 53 fines and 149 written warnings, were imposed for violations of prevailing OJK regulations.
Regarding capital requirements, OJK reported that nine multifinance companies have yet to meet the minimum equity mandate of Rp100 billion as of July 2026. These firms have submitted action plans to OJK, which may include capital injections from existing shareholders, seeking strategic investors, or pursuing mergers. Meanwhile, the industry's financing receivables reached Rp513.05 trillion in July 2026, with a gross Non-Performing Financing (NPF) rate of 3.03%.
The pawnshop industry showed significant growth, with financing disbursements reaching Rp160.78 trillion in July 2026, a 50.73% increase year-on-year. Total industry assets rose to Rp192.18 trillion. Separately, PT Budi Gadai Indonesia reported that sales of unredeemed collateral items accounted for 7% to 10% of total collateral value during the first half of 2026, with electronics and motor vehicles being the most common categories.
