Okanagan Indian Band begins recovery from Bradley Creek wildfire

Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) Chief Dan Wilson has announced that the community is entering a long recovery phase following the Bradley Creek wildfire. Although the BC Wildfire Service has classified the blaze as being held since August 8, officials continue to monitor the area to ensure safety before all residents can return.

Currently, two evacuation orders and two evacuation alerts remain in effect, issued by OKIB and the Regional District of North Okanagan. While some residents have been permitted to return home, others must wait until hot spots are extinguished and Westside Road is confirmed safe. Chief Wilson noted that the council is working with provincial and federal leadership to secure necessary resources for rebuilding the land and community amidst ongoing drought conditions.
