Oklahoma City artist missing after high-speed train crash in Spain
Fernando Calvillo, a prominent Oklahoma City artist and Community Relations Director for the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition, is missing following a high-speed train collision in Urda, Spain. The accident occurred when a passenger train collided with a stationary train, resulting in at least 69 deaths.
Calvillo was traveling with his husband, jewelry designer Lawrence Naff, when the crash occurred. Naff sustained serious leg injuries and underwent surgery in Alcázar de San Juan, where he is reported to be stable and conscious.
Search efforts are ongoing, as a signal from Calvillo’s Apple Watch was briefly detected at the crash site before being lost. Due to Calvillo’s dual US and Mexican citizenship, family and community members are coordinating communication efforts across Oklahoma, Spain, and Mexico to locate him.
