Oklahoma to become 15th U.S. state adding digital driver’s licenses to Apple Wallet
The Oklahoma House passed legislation in March 2026 authorising Service Oklahoma to issue mobile or digital versions of driver’s licenses and state ID cards. The bill was drafted with input from Apple, paving the way for the state’s residents to add these documents to Apple Wallet on supported iPhones (iPhone 8 or later with iOS 16.5 or newer) and Apple Watch models (Series 4 or later with watchOS 9.5 or newer).
Apple’s backend data, reported by several technology outlets, now shows Oklahoma as the next jurisdiction to join the existing roster of 14 U.S. states and Puerto Rico that already support the Digital ID feature. The digital IDs will function alongside physical documents; users must still carry the paper version. When available, the Wallet IDs can be used at participating TSA security checkpoints and at merchants that accept digital age verification, offering a more convenient and privacy‑preserving alternative to showing the full physical license.
The rollout is part of Apple’s gradual, state‑by‑state expansion that began in 2021. Oklahoma’s addition marks the 15th state in the program, highlighting ongoing coordination between state governments and Apple to meet local regulatory and security requirements.
