Ola Bini arrives in Sweden following deportation from Ecuador
Swedish programmer Ola Bini has arrived in Stockholm following his deportation from Ecuador, where he had resided for 13 years. Bini arrived at Arlanda Airport on October 3, 2026, accompanied by his parents, after traveling from Quito via Bogotá and Frankfurt.
The deportation followed Bini's detention in Quito on October 1. His legal defense, led by attorney Carlos Soria, has challenged the legality of the procedure, noting that no judicial warrant for detention or retention was presented. Authorities reportedly revoked Bini's permanent residency visa based on a classified report citing threats to public security and the state structure.
Bini and his legal team claim they were denied access to the secret documents used to justify the measure. The deportation was executed while a habeas corpus petition was still pending. As a result of the proceedings, Bini is prohibited from re-entering Ecuador for ten years. He has expressed his intention to continue his legal defense.
