Ola Bini deported from Ecuador to Sweden
Swedish cybersecurity activist and programmer Ola Bini has been deported from Ecuador to Sweden following the revocation of his residency visa. The deportation, executed in the early hours of October 2, 2026, follows Bini's detention in northern Quito on October 1.
Ecuadorian migration authorities cited a secret report from March 2026, alleging that Bini poses a “threat and risk to public security and the structure of the State.” Bini and his legal counsel, Carlos Soria, have challenged the legality of the move, describing it as “illegal, arbitrary, and completely unconstitutional.” The defense noted that Bini was intercepted by officials without a formal judicial warrant and that a habeas corpus petition was filed but not resolved before the deportation took place.
The administrative resolution includes a 10-year ban on re-entering Ecuadorian territory. Bini, who has resided in Ecuador since 2013, was held at the Mariscal Sucre International Airport while awaiting emergency travel documentation from the Swedish Embassy.
