Oldambt municipality faces pressure over event permit issues

Political pressure is mounting on the Oldambt municipal government following the decision by Zweep Events to immediately cancel eight local events, including the Duitse Dagen, Koningsmarkt, and Rolling Winschoten. The cancellation has sparked significant concern among local political parties regarding the municipality's permit procedures and regulatory burden.

Multiple factions, including the Partij vóór het Noorden (PVHN), the Verenigde Communisten Partij (VCP), and Gemeentebelangen Oldambt (GBO), have submitted written questions to the municipal executive. Organizers have reported long procedures, late additional requirements, and general lack of clarity. Specifically, the PVHN questioned why additional information was requested for permits applied for in April only weeks before the scheduled October events.

The VCP has questioned why stricter or different requirements are being imposed on an experienced organizer after fifteen years of operation, asking if there were any recent safety incidents to justify the change in stance. Meanwhile, GBO noted that a previous municipal commitment to provide a status update on reducing regulatory pressure for village festivals has not yet been met.
