Zweep Events cancellation dispute in Oldambt

Zweep Events announced the immediate cancellation of eight major events in Winschoten, including the German Days, Koningsmarkt, and Rolling Winschoten. Organizers Rob and Meindert Zweep cited increasing regulatory demands and conflicts with the local government as the primary reasons for ending their 15-year operation. They claimed the Municipality of Oldambt imposed impractical and irrelevant new requirements despite permit applications being submitted months in advance.

The Municipality of Oldambt expressed surprise at the announcement, stating that discussions regarding the German Days were still ongoing. While acknowledging that contact should have occurred sooner following the applications, the municipality maintained it had attempted to assist by discussing safety plan requirements and alternative locations.

The cancellations have led to political pressure on the Oldambt municipal government. Local political factions, including the Partij vóór het Noorden (PVHN), the Verenigde Communisten Partij (VCP), and Gemeentebelangen Oldambt (GBO), have submitted inquiries to the municipal executive. These groups have questioned the timing of new information requests, the justification for stricter requirements on an experienced organizer, and the municipality’s failure to meet previous commitments to reduce regulatory pressure on village festivals.
