Mönchengladbach Sparkasse safe‑deposit boxes breached during opening hours

During a Monday morning in Mönchengladbach, thieves broke into the safe‑deposit vault of a Sparkasse branch while the bank was open to customers. Police reported that roughly 29 – 30 deposit boxes were forced open. Two unknown perpetrators gained access to the vault area, remained inside for about thirty minutes and were interrupted by customers and staff, after which they fled. Surveillance cameras captured the incident, but no arrests have been made yet. The bank has restored normal service and the contents of the boxes, as well as the monetary loss, have not been disclosed.

Investigators are seeking witnesses and have reviewed video footage. The case remains open, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
