OLED technology advances through UV polymers and new consumer hardware

Researchers at ETH Zurich are developing new ultracompact OLED polymers using ultraviolet (UV) photolithography. This technique, commonly used in semiconductor and chip manufacturing, aims to reduce display sizes while increasing pixel density, potentially advancing flexible and foldable screen technologies.

In the consumer market, Roku is expanding its hardware presence with the Pro Series OLED televisions. By offering high-specification models—such as a 55-inch panel with 120Hz native refresh rates, HDMI 2.1 ports, Dolby Vision, and HDR10 Plus support—at more accessible price points, the company is driving the commoditization of OLED technology and increasing competition for established manufacturers.
