Oleshky: Ukrainian drones deliver food to besieged city
Ukrainian forces have used cargo drones to deliver approximately four tonnes of food to the occupied city of Oleshky. The city, located on the southern bank of the Dnipro River, has been under Russian control and effectively besieged for months.
Kherson Governor Olexander Prokudin reported that roughly 2,000 people are trapped in the city, including nearly 50 children. Residents are reportedly surviving without reliable access to food, electricity, or water. The humanitarian situation is critical; according to the United Nations, the last local shop in the town closed in January, and no food supplies have reached the area since May.
While the city is only nine kilometers from the Ukrainian-controlled regional capital of Kherson, the front line runs between them. The surrounding area is heavily mined due to ongoing conflict, making land-based supply routes and evacuations extremely dangerous.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the critical situation but accused the Ukrainian military of using drones to obstruct food deliveries. Meanwhile, Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Michael O'Flaherty has called for an immediate local ceasefire to facilitate humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians.
