Olive oil market faces geopolitical shifts and new production trends

The global olive oil market is undergoing significant shifts due to changing production patterns, new producing countries, and evolving consumption destinations. At a recent industry forum in Jaén organized by Grupo Interóleo, professionals discussed the necessity of integrating geopolitical analysis into business strategies for cooperatives and exporters.

Key discussion points included the emergence of new producers, the growing importance of the United States as a major destination for olive oil, and the impact of international tensions on global trade. Experts noted that while the sector faces a complex landscape, there is an unprecedented opportunity for growth if producers can align their operations with the new international context.

In Spain, Andalusia remains a central pillar of the industry, producing approximately 70 percent of the nation's olive oil and nearly one-third of the world's consumption. The region is also a major global power in the table olive market, with varieties such as Manzanilla Sevillana, Gordal, Hojiblanca, and Aloreña serving as vital agricultural and gastronomic assets.
