Olive oil markets show high stocks in Spain and shifting production in Greece
In Spain, olive oil stocks reached over 470,000 tonnes at the end of August 2026, according to preliminary data from the Agencia de Información y Control Alimentarios (AICA). While monthly outflows were approximately 94,083 tonnes, stocks are expected to settle around 370,000 tonnes by the end of September. This level is roughly 100,000 tonnes higher than the same period last year. Producer prices have remained stable, with some increases noted in the lampante category, which positively influenced higher-quality virgin and extra virgin oils.
In Greece, the National DOEPEL reports a slightly decreased production forecast for the 2026/27 olive season, particularly for table olive varieties such as ‘Amphissa’ and ‘Chalkidiki’. Despite the lower volume, the quality of the fruit is expected to be high. Industry representatives suggest that if weather conditions remain favorable, production could approach last year’s levels. While current yields for certain varieties are down, new olive tree plantings are expected to bolster production capacity in the coming years.
