Oliver Skopec leaves BSW parliamentary group in Brandenburg

Oliver Skopec has resigned from both the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) party and its parliamentary group in the Brandenburg state parliament. Skopec, 41, intends to retain his mandate as an independent, non-aligned representative.

Skopec cited the party's identity as a “loud protest party” as his primary reason for leaving, stating that he seeks a party focused on concrete solutions and governance rather than anti-establishment protest. He noted that while he still supports the party's content, he does not see the BSW moving toward a constructive, shaping role.

The departure reduces the BSW parliamentary group in Brandenburg from nine members to eight. BSW parliamentary leader Niels-Olaf Lüders described the exit as regrettable but stated it would not destabilize the group, claiming the party currently maintains strong momentum.

This exit follows a period of instability for the BSW in various German states, including the dissolution of its parliamentary group in Thuringia and previous defections in Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg.
