Olivia Rodrigo releases ‘Serena Joy’ via limited CD run
Singer Olivia Rodrigo has released a surprise new song titled ‘Serena Joy’, inspired by the character of the same name from Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’.
The track was initially made available through a highly limited release of only 500 physical CDs, sold exclusively at the Analog Record Shop in Tustin, California. The shop reported that the limited stock sold out quickly. The release serves as a precursor to the Daisy Chain Fields music festival, an all-female event organized by Rodrigo, which is scheduled to take place in Orange County on August 29.
Although the song was recorded during the sessions for her third studio album, ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love’, Rodrigo decided not to include it on the final tracklist. A wider digital and streaming release of the single is expected to follow.
