Olivia Rodrigo Serena Joy song release

Overview

Singer Olivia Rodrigo released a new song titled ‘Serena Joy,’ inspired by a character from Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale.’ The track was initially launched as a highly limited physical release of 500 CDs sold exclusively at the Analog Record Shop in Tustin, California, which reportedly sold out quickly.

Although the song was recorded during sessions for her third studio album, ‘You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love,’ Rodrigo chose not to include it on the final tracklist because its political tone did not fit the album's romantic narrative. The track, co-written with Dan Nigro, was released separately to explore themes of reproductive rights, complicity, and privilege. Following the physical release, the song was made available on digital streaming platforms.

All net proceeds benefit charities such as Planned Parenthood, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Baby2Baby, and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, with a portion also directed to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.

This musical release serves as a precursor to the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival, an all-female music event scheduled for August 29 at Great Park in Irvine, Orange County. The sold-out festival lineup includes artists such as Stevie Nicks, Chappell Roan, Bikini Kill, Santigold, Mitski, and Doechii.
