Olomouc Archdiocese cancels pilgrimage for LGBT+ believers

The Olomouc Archdiocese has canceled a planned pilgrimage for LGBT+ believers scheduled for mid-September. Organizers stated that a wave of negative and hateful reactions in online spaces made it impossible to guarantee a safe environment for participants.

Archdiocese spokesperson Jiří Gračka clarified that the decision was not a concession to pressure, but an attempt to avoid a dangerous situation due to the highly polarized atmosphere. Despite the cancellation of the public event, the archdiocese intends to continue its pastoral work with the minority community through regular, small-scale meetings and spiritual discussions.

Archbishop Josef Nuzík has supported these services for over two years, emphasizing that the church should not close its doors to anyone seeking God. Organizers noted that the intimate format of personal conversations and prayer remains the most essential aspect of their outreach.
