Olomouc pipe burst fuels water‑infrastructure debate as Prague earmarks 35 bn CZK for upgrades

The incident has sparked political debate ahead of municipal elections, with opposition and coalition candidates calling for urgent investment and the city considering reclaiming control of water services from the Veolia‑owned operator.

In Prague, city councillors approved a medium‑term investment plan for 2027‑2031 that allocates about 35.2 billion Czech crowns to modernise the capital’s water‑management system. The plan includes reconstructing and building sewer lines, renewing water mains, upgrading treatment plants and adding new water reservoirs, aiming to improve service quality and support future growth.
