Oluremi Tinubu launches National Community Food Bank in South-South Nigeria

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the National Community Food Bank programme in the South-South geopolitical zone. The initiative, held in Calabar, Cross River State, aims to combat malnutrition among children under six, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.

To date, the programme has enrolled 1,179 beneficiaries and disbursed 2,089 food packages. Supporters of the initiative, including Dr. Betta Edu, noted that the program is expected to boost local economies by sourcing fresh crops and livestock from local farmers. The program is part of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Tinubu.

In addition to the food bank launch, the First Lady inaugurated a new RHI/TETFUND ICT Experience Centre at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS). The facility is intended to promote digital skills acquisition and support innovation among young Nigerians.
