Olympiacos President Vangelis Marinkis Pushes €250 million Karaiskakis Stadium Upgrade
President Vangelis Marinkis announced a major expansion of Olympiacos' Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in Piraeus. The project will raise capacity from 33,000 to 53,000 seats and increase the roof height to 52 m, requiring a change to the law that currently limits the height to 40 m. The €250 million cost is expected to be covered entirely by the club’s own funds.
In line with the club’s broader modernization effort, Olympiacos appointed Antonio Miguel Cardoso as General Director of Football Business and International Club Strategy, adding a senior executive role focused on football business and overseas development.
Olympiacos also pledged financial aid to the local Piraeus football association. Vice‑president Kostas Karapapas said the club gave an initial €10,000 grant and will provide regular monthly contributions for administrative costs and referee expenses, positioning Olympiacos as a supportive “brother” to all regional clubs.
