Olympiacos completes €6.5 million signing of Swedish defender ZinenTin Smailović
Olympiacos formally announced the acquisition of 22‑year‑old Swedish centre‑back ZinenTin Smailović from Norwegian club Sandefjord for a total fee exceeding €6.5 million (approximately €5 million guaranteed plus performance bonuses). The player signed a four‑year contract and travelled to the Netherlands to join the team’s pre‑season camp under head coach José Luis Mendilibar.
Smailović, who stands 1.91 m tall and is left‑footed, is praised for his physicality, aerial ability and composure on the ball. He is expected to become a key element of Olympiacos’ defensive quartet alongside veteran Kostas Retsos and fellow full‑backs Panagiotis Pirola and Cristian Car… The club views the transfer as a long‑term investment in its back line for upcoming domestic competitions and Champions League qualifiers.
Born in Stockholm with Bosnian heritage, Smailović progressed through Swedish youth setups before senior spells at Italian sides Lecce and Lecco, followed by a move to Sandefjord where he logged 39 league appearances, scoring two goals and providing three assists. He has also represented Sweden at U21 level.
