Olympiacos unveils €250 million new Karaiskakis stadium plan

Olympiacos club president Vangelis Marinas presented the new George Karaiskakis stadium on 2 July at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus. The proposed arena will hold more than 53,000 spectators and is designed as a four‑level “theatre of dreams” with 32 moving stairs, 60 lifts, a 2,000 m² media centre, extensive hospitality suites and a 10,000 m² LED screen.

The project cost is estimated at €250 million and will be financed entirely by the club and Marinas, with no public funds requested. Construction has been delayed because a height‑increase regulation (from 40 m to 52–53 m) has not yet been approved; the club has asked the government for a September 2025 decree. If the regulation is granted, works could start in May and the stadium could be ready for an August 2028 opening.

Marinas highlighted Olympiacos’ recent European triumphs, the need for a modern home to match the club’s elite status, and criticised the government’s slowdown, noting that other Greek stadium projects proceeded faster with state support.
