Oman emphasizes diplomacy amid Trump's threats over Strait of Hormuz

Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi has emphasized that maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz is inextricably linked to the stability and prosperity of the entire region. Speaking alongside Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi in Muscat, Al-Busaidi reiterated Oman's commitment to international law and peaceful diplomatic solutions to reduce regional tensions.

These diplomatic efforts follow threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated he would “bombard” Oman if the nation interferes with American efforts regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Experts, including former Department of Defense Middle East advisor Jasmine el-Gamal, have characterized such statements as “not a credible threat,” suggesting they may stem from frustration following the expiration of a 60-day negotiation window between the U.S. and Iran.

While Iran has sought to negotiate secure maritime routes through Muscat independently of the United States, Japan has expressed support for maintaining freedom of navigation in both the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb strait to ensure stable energy supplies.
