Oman Sultan conducts historic state visit to China and Brunei
Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman has completed a historic state visit to China, marking the first visit by an Omani head of state to the country in 48 years. During the two-day visit to Beijing, Sultan Haitham met with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to deepen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
The leaders signed 14 memoranda of understanding and cooperation protocols covering diverse sectors, including green development, artificial intelligence, digital economy, and the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System. A significant financial agreement was reached as the central banks of Oman and China signed a local currency swap agreement. Additionally, Oman Duty Free signed a memorandum of understanding with China Duty Free International to enhance travel retail cooperation.
Following the conclusion of his visit to China, Sultan Haitham traveled to Brunei Darussalam for a three-day state visit at the invitation of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. During discussions in Brunei, the Sultan emphasized the need to expand trade and investment cooperation, specifically identifying oil and gas, renewable energy, food security, and maritime logistics as key areas for bilateral growth.
