Omani Sultan state visits China and Brunei
Overview
Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman conducted a series of historic state visits to China and Brunei Darussalam in November 2026.
During a two day visit to Beijing, the Sultan met with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to strengthen strategic partnerships. The visit resulted in the signing of 14 memoranda of understanding regarding sectors such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and green development. A local currency swap agreement was also signed between the central banks of Oman and China.
Following the trip to China, the Sultan traveled to Brunei Darussalam for a three day state visit. The visit included an official audience with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at Istana Nurul Iman, featuring a twenty one gun salute and a Guard of Honour inspection. Discussions in Brunei focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in oil and gas, renewable energy, food security, and maritime logistics.
