Ombudsman RI finds suspected luxury housing at Cibinong Prison

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia (Ombudsman RI) has reported findings of suspected “luxury clusters” within the Class IIA Cibinong Prison in Bogor Regency. During a surprise inspection on September 23, 2026, Ombudsman member Syafrida R. Rasahan noted the presence of residential buildings resembling homestays, complete with sofas, refrigerators, televisions, and dining tables.

In addition to these high-end amenities, the inspection revealed a fitness facility and the construction of a golf simulator. One inmate claimed to have paid to occupy these residences, though investigations into these payments are ongoing. The Ombudsman also reported security vulnerabilities, including unlocked access points connecting the buildings to the outside of the prison, the presence of alcohol bottles, and allegations of illegal levies against inmates in other blocks.
