Omgevingsdienst Haaglanden investigates industrial wastewater discharges

Omgevingsdienst Haaglanden is conducting an investigation into indirect industrial wastewater discharges to better understand how substances enter the water cycle via the sewage system. The initiative involves combining data on substances used in industrial processes with physical testing of wastewater samples.

To date, information has been collected from approximately 160 companies, and wastewater samples have been taken from 20 businesses. The investigation focuses on substances subject to legal regulations as well as others that may impact water quality, such as those that are difficult to break down or accumulate in the environment.

The findings are intended to support permit issuance, supervision, and advisory roles, while assisting in the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive. The region must meet specific water quality standards and substance norms by December 22, 2027.
