Edo State Government denies ban on singer Davido

The Edo State Government has officially denied reports that Afrobeats singer Davido has been banned from performing in the state. The clarification follows a viral video by Apostle Kassy Chukwu, a senior special assistant to Governor Monday Okpebholo, who claimed the singer was prohibited from entering Edo due to recent disrespectful comments made toward the governor.

Edo Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, described the claims as the work of an ‘impostor’ and a ‘fraud,’ stating that the government remains open to the singer, whom he called one of the state’s ‘illustrious sons.’ The dispute stems from a public spat where Davido shared what appeared to be Governor Okpebholo’s academic results on social media following criticisms of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Separately, Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate, has criticized Governor Adeleke for his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu. Sowore alleged the visit signifies a secret political agreement ahead of the 2027 elections and claimed that nearly 50 citizens have died due to election-related violence in Osun State. Sowore also criticized Davido for his interactions with political figures like Nyesom Wike, labeling such actions as ‘political hustling.’
