OMV and Siemens launch electric truck charging on Brenner Route
OMV and Siemens eMobility have launched the world’s first commercial application of the SICHARGE FLEX charging system at an OMV station in Kufstein, Austria. Located on the Brenner Route—a critical transit corridor connecting Germany and Italy—the site is designed to support the expansion of electric heavy-duty transport.
The initial phase of the project provides six DC charging points: four for passenger cars and two for trucks, with capacities of up to 400 kW per point. A subsequent expansion phase will add four additional truck charging points utilizing the Megawatt Charging Standard (MCS), capable of delivering between 600 kW and 1.2 MW.
This high-power infrastructure aims to integrate charging into mandatory driving breaks. For example, a modern electric truck with a 620-kWh battery could potentially charge from 20 to 80 percent in approximately 45 minutes. The SICHARGE FLEX system is a decentralized, modular technology with a total configurable power output ranging from 480 kW to 1.68 MW.
