Oncoclínicas shares surge despite rising quarterly losses
Shares of Oncoclínicas (ONCO3) rose between 15% and 18% on the B3 exchange despite a significant increase in net losses for the second quarter. The company reported a net loss of R$ 475.7 million, a 234% increase compared to the R$ 142 million loss recorded in the same period the previous year.
Market investors appear to be betting on the company’s ongoing extrajudicial recovery process, which was recently approved by the courts. However, financial analysts remain cautious. JPMorgan noted that results fell below expectations, highlighting a 33% year-on-year drop in treatment volumes. This decline is largely attributed to a shortage of medications that began in March, which has constrained operations and impacted liquidity.
Revenue fell by approximately 28.5% to R$ 1.05 billion. While adjusted EBITDA showed growth compared to the first quarter of the year, it remains significantly lower than previous annual comparisons. Analysts from BTG Pactual and JPMorgan warned that difficulties in financing medication purchases could continue to pressure volumes and lead to a loss of market share to better-capitalized competitors.
