Oncoclínicas financial restructuring and debt management
Overview
Brazilian oncology chain Oncoclínicas is undergoing financial restructuring following a filing for judicial recovery in July 2026. To address an estimated R$5.1 billion debt, the company announced the sale of its 51% stake in the Specialized Medical Treatment Company (SMTC), a joint venture in Saudi Arabia, to Al Faisaliah Group Holding Company and Advanced Drug Company for US$6.5 million. This divestment is intended to simplify the company’s portfolio and concentrate resources on its domestic operations in Brazil.
Despite the sale, the company’s second-quarter financial results showed a significant increase in net losses, rising to R$475.7 million from R$142 million in the previous year. Net revenue also fell approximately 28.5% to R$1.05 billion. Analysts have noted that operations have been pressured by a 33% drop in treatment volumes and liquidity constraints caused by a shortage of medications. While the company’s extrajudicial recovery process recently received judicial approval, leading to a surge in share prices on the B3 exchange, financial experts remain cautious regarding its operational challenges.
