Ondo State Governor implements water and waste management reforms

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has launched several initiatives aimed at improving public infrastructure and sanitation. To address water scarcity, the administration has procured critical equipment and ductile iron pipes from China to rehabilitate the Owena Multipurpose Dam Water Treatment Plant and expand Akure’s water infrastructure. This project includes the construction of an 800mm transmission pipeline, a new reservoir at Oke Aro, and the rehabilitation of three existing township reservoirs.

In a separate effort to improve sanitation, the state has increased the number of private waste operators from 19 to 51. The governor also announced the deployment of 120 waste skips and two modern compactor trucks, the restoration of the State Environmental Task Force, and the revival of monthly environmental sanitation exercises. Additionally, the administration is establishing Renewed Hope Environment Clubs in schools to promote recycling, tree planting, and water conservation.
