Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker faces ongoing impeachment

The impeachment process against Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, remains active despite attempts at reconciliation. Assembly spokesperson Olatunji Ifabiyi dismissed reports that lawmakers had abandoned the removal process, labeling such claims as misinformation and stating, “There is no going back.”

Efforts by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to mediate the leadership crisis have not halted the proceedings. Some lawmakers remain determined to replace Oladiji as Speaker.

The political tension escalated on Thursday when suspected political thugs invaded the Assembly complex. The intruders, reportedly from Ondo town—the Speaker’s constituency—moved through various offices, causing disruption and fear among staff and lawmakers. The presence of the hoodlums reportedly forced the Speaker to leave the premises hurriedly. It took the combined intervention of security agencies and certain lawmakers to remove the intruders from the complex.
