Nigeria police conduct widespread arrests in multi-state crime crackdown
Police commands across several Nigerian states have conducted multiple operations resulting in numerous arrests and the recovery of weapons, stolen property, and cash.
In Delta State, nine suspected cultists were arrested in Obiaruku and Issele-Ikpitime, with authorities recovering locally fabricated firearms and suspected illicit drugs. In Akwa Ibom, six suspects, including a suspected native doctor and a specialist in fake receipts, were apprehended for involvement in a motorcycle theft network.
In Ogun State, police foiled a robbery at a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area, arresting two suspects and recovering eleven iPhones and a laptop. Meanwhile, in Oyo State, a security guard was arrested for shooting a resident, and another individual was detained following a violent land dispute in Eruwa.
In Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa issued a 14-day ultimatum for criminals to vacate forest reserves. This follows a successful police operation in Isua-Akoko where three suspected kidnappers were arrested and two victims rescued, alongside the recovery of ₦1.5 million in suspected ransom. In Anambra, seven suspects were arrested following a kidnapping attempt that had previously resulted in the theft of ₦7 million from a victim's bank account.
