Ondo State Speaker Olamide Oladiji Impeached as 24 Lawmakers Back Removal
In the Ondo State House of Assembly, 24 of the 26 legislators have declared support for the removal of Speaker Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji. Lawmakers accuse him of financial misconduct and abuse of office, alleging that about ₦44 million was linked to the reordering of the budget for the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC).
Member representing Ilaje Constituency II, Hon. Olawunmi Fayemi‑Obayelu, said the impeachment drive gained three more supporters after an earlier 21‑lawmaker backing. The move follows a two‑week reconciliation period requested by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, which is set to end on Sunday. Oladiji denies wrongdoing, claiming the effort is politically motivated ahead of the 2027 elections, while Assembly spokesman Hon. Olatunji Fabiyi insists the accusations are about accountability and procedural breaches.
