One Dead in Warsaw Train Collision Halts Intercity Services

A passenger Intercity train traveling from Kraków to Warsaw collided with a person on the tracks near the Żwirki i Wigury and Rakowiec stations on the night of 20 June. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police, railway security, fire brigades and medical teams responded, and a police‑prosecutor investigative team took charge of the site.

The accident forced an immediate shutdown of the affected rail segment, causing a full paralysis of SKM and Koleje Mazowieckie services on the Warsaw Aleje Jerozolimskie – Warszawa Służewiec line. Trains were rerouted or terminated at alternate stations, and passengers were offered free transfers to buses, trams and the metro. The disruption led to significant delays, with many journeys postponed by 30 minutes or more.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, while rail operators work to restore normal service as soon as possible.
