One dead, seven injured as Gombe State Assembly complex collapses

A section of the cantilevered entrance canopy at the new Gombe State House of Assembly Complex collapsed on Friday, killing a construction worker and injuring seven others. The injured were taken to Gombe State Specialist Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital for treatment, with the state government covering all medical costs.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya was briefed on the incident and directed the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, together with emergency and regulatory agencies, to launch an immediate safety and accountability investigation. The contractor and supervising consultant have been ordered to submit a formal incident report within 24 hours, followed by a preliminary investigation and a comprehensive technical report. The government pledged to act on the findings and enforce strict compliance with safety and engineering standards for public infrastructure projects in the state.
