One Nation support rises in Hunter region amid gas exploration debate
New polling conducted by Pureprofile on behalf of Advent Energy indicates rising support for the One Nation party in parts of the Hunter region. At a federal level within six surveyed electorates, One Nation reached 33 per cent, leading the Labor Party at 29 per cent. At the state level, both parties were tied at 32 per cent.
The survey, which included 1,029 respondents, focused on areas near the PEP11 offshore gas exploration permit zone. Despite significant community and government opposition to the PEP11 proposal, the poll suggests that public support for gas exploration in the area remains stronger than opposition.
Advent Energy, a Western Australia-based company, continues to pursue the PEP11 licence. While a previous judicial review rejected the company's grounds of appeal regarding the public interest finding, the decision is currently the subject of a further appeal.
