One Piece announces two new films, including canon God Valley movie

During One Piece Day 2026, Toei Animation announced two major upcoming feature films for the franchise. The first, titled ‘One Piece Film: God Valley’, is scheduled for release in the summer of 2027 in Japan. This film marks a significant departure for the series as it will be the first canon movie, directly adapting historical events from the manga rather than being a standalone adventure.

Set 38 years before the current timeline, the film will focus on the God Valley Incident, featuring legendary figures such as Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Garp, and Rocks D. Xebec. Notably, the film is expected to proceed without the central protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, or the Straw Hat Pirates, focusing instead on the lore and historical figures of the series.

The second announced project is ‘One Piece Film: BAAD’, which is slated for a 2029 release to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the anime. Additionally, creator Eiichiro Oda has indicated that he aims to conclude the One Piece manga storyline by approximately 2030.
