Onimusha: Way of the Sword set for 2026 release

Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first new entry in the Japanese swordplay action franchise in 20 years, is scheduled to launch on September 4, 2026. The game will be available simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Set in Edo-period Kyoto, the dark fantasy adventure follows Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai seeking to prove his unmatched skill with the sword. As he battles monstrous Genma creatures invading the city, he utilizes the mystical Oni Gauntlet to access superhuman abilities.

A new character video narrated by Yuriri Naka highlights the fates of the characters and their formidable foes. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will feature exclusive motion controls using Joy-Con 2 controllers for sword combat and archery.
