Onosato faces pressure at Autumn Basho after first loss

Sumo wrestler Onosato faces significant pressure during the fifth day of the Autumn Basho at Ryogoku Kokugikan following his first loss of the tournament. On the fourth day, Onosato was defeated by Takayasu, a match where analysts noted a recurring tendency to retreat or pull back during the initial charge (tachiai).

Hidenoyama, a former Ozeki and current stablemaster, observed that Onosato appears to be struggling to regain his peak form. He noted that Onosato's posture has become too high, making him vulnerable to being pushed back, and that he has developed a habit of retreating when losing momentum—a weakness opponents are actively exploiting.

Looking ahead to the fifth day, Onosato faces Yoshinofuji, an opponent against whom he holds a 0-4 record. To remain in contention for the championship, Onosato must avoid his tendency to retreat and focus on aggressive, forward-moving sumo. Other key competitors in the tournament, including Kirishima and Atamifuji, also face critical matchups as the race for the title intensifies.
