ONPE flags misuse of public funds by Renovación Popular

Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has flagged irregularities regarding the use of direct public funding by the political party Renovación Popular (also referred to as Fuerza Popular) during 2025.

The electoral body observed approximately S/250,375 in expenditures. Key findings include S/113,325 spent on “research” services that ONPE determined were actually aimed at evaluating electoral trends, political perception, and communication strategies for the 2026 general elections rather than legitimate socio-economic research.

Additional irregularities include S/82,600 for legal advisory services related to electoral processes and S/70,000 for a public management diploma at the Universidad San Martín de Porres. ONPE noted that S/12,000 was improperly spent on participants who failed the course. The report also highlighted a S/110,000 contract with Servic Team S.A.C. for political leadership workshops; the company reportedly lacked the required experience and was registered for economic activities unrelated to event production.
