ONPE interview scheduled for July 14 to select new chief
Peru's National Justice Board (Junta Nacional de Justicia, JNJ) set July 14 for the final personal interview of Carlos Martín Loyola Escajadillo, the sole candidate in the public competition to become head of the Oficina Nacional de Procesos Electorales (ONPE). The interview will take place at the ONPE headquarters in San Isidro at 11:00 a.m., after which the board will publish scores, merit rankings and the official voting results.
If no further delays occur, the newly elected ONPE chief is slated to be sworn in on July 16, 2026. The schedule was revised after Loyola was reinstated following a successful challenge to his earlier exclusion over undisclosed judicial proceedings.
The JNJ’s decision was approved by a majority of its members, with votes in favor from President María Teresa Cabrera Vega and several other board members, while three members voted against.
