Ontario authorities seize 1.7 tonnes of drugs in largest single‑province bust

A multi‑jurisdictional investigation dubbed Project Bay, launched by the Windsor Police Service in early 2025, resulted in the seizure of about 1.7 tonnes of illicit narcotics—including roughly 973 kg of suspected cocaine, 660 kg of methamphetamine and 49 kg of opium—worth more than $139 million. The operation involved Canadian agencies such as the Canada Border Services Agency, Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service and Peel Regional Police, as well as U.S. partners Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Searches were carried out in homes and businesses across Windsor, Corunna, LaSalle, Brampton, Kleinburg, Markham and Caledon between June 25 and July 20, 2026. In addition to drugs, investigators seized 17 firearms (including an anti‑tank rifle), high‑end jewellery, cash, money‑counting machines, cell phones, laptops and other prohibited items. Twenty‑one individuals were arrested, thirteen of them South Asian, and two suspects from Windsor remain at large.
