Ontario police drug enforcement expands

Overview

From early June through early August 2026 the Ontario Provincial Police and municipal partners sustained a wave of coordinated drug‑related operations across the province. Initial raids on June 4 in Caledon, Mississauga and on Couchiching First Nation resulted in six arrests and seizures of cocaine and cash, laying the groundwork for later actions. Subsequent incidents in Sarnia and Barrie (June 25) uncovered hundreds of grams of cocaine, a disguised taser and a firearm discharged in a restaurant. Highway 17 traffic stops on June 24‑26 seized cocaine, methamphetamine, a digital scale and cash, and produced drug‑impaired‑driving charges. The OPP also pursued related property crimes, charging a Haliburton Highlands suspect with break‑and‑enter theft (June 24) and a driver in East Algoma with drug‑impaired driving (June 25).

July 7 saw OPP arrests in Lambton County for trafficking multiple opioids and firearms, while a Brighton search yielded stolen tools and a vehicle. Stratford Police’s Project Carlos concluded on July 11 with six arrests and $37,000‑worth of meth, fentanyl, cocaine, crack and a crossbow, highlighting inter‑agency collaboration. West Grey’s counterfeit‑money ring was dismantled on July 15, adding cocaine, an imitation BB handgun and a stolen motorcycle to the charges. Halton Regional Police announced a $5 million seizure of 20 kg cocaine and 273 kg meth in Project Jester, the largest meth bust in its history. A final OPP RIDE checkpoint in Hastings on August 2 seized cocaine, fentanyl, a prohibited weapon and cash, resulting in four trafficking arrests, while earlier July 26 highway stops led to stunt‑driving charges. The series of raids, highway interceptions, and multi‑jurisdictional stings underscores an ongoing, province‑wide effort to disrupt drug trafficking, related firearms offenses and dangerous driving.
