Northern Ontario wildfires blaze across the region

Wildfires continue to rage across Northern Ontario, with the worst activity in the province’s north‑west. Authorities report 46 active fires in the northeast and 119 in the northwest. The most affected areas include the Rinkler Lake Complex, the Atikokan Cluster, Dryden and the Highway 599 Cluster around Sioux Lookout.

Firefighting crews from Ontario, Alberta, Quebec and even Mexico are on the ground, using heavy equipment, aircraft and incident‑management teams. As of the latest update, three fires – two near Dryden and one near Thunder Bay – have burned roughly 383,089 hectares of forest that remain uncontrolled. The situation poses significant risks to communities, wildlife and air quality across the region.
