Ontario Timmins wildfire remains uncontained

The Timmins 9 wildfire in northern Ontario has been remapped at roughly 3,154 hectares, down from 3,346 hectares the previous day, but it remains not under control. Cooler temperatures, lighter winds and scattered rain have reduced fire activity, yet 13 Ontario FireRanger crews and four helicopters continue suppression efforts.

Travel is prohibited on several roads near the fire, including Gogama Unit Road from Highway 144 northbound to Pineland Road, the trail behind the Old Vagabond restaurant, Kenetogami Lake Road from Highway 144 north to Hazen Lake, and Tatachikapika Lake Road off Highway 144. The province reports five active wildland fires in the northeast region, with two still uncontrolled, one being held, and two under control. Authorities remind the public to follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations and to exercise caution when disposing of yard waste or conducting outdoor burns.
