Ontario wildfires rage across multiple regions, dozens of fires remain active

Canada's Ontario province is battling an extensive wildfire outbreak. As of July 11, 2026, the Northwest Region reported 80 active wildland fires, with ten not yet under control, while the Northeast Region had 30 fires, one of which remains uncontrolled. The most significant blaze is the Fort Frances 14 fire, covering roughly 1,570 hectares and still out of control, followed by the Fort Frances 15 fire at about 1,300 hectares. Other large fires include a 30‑hectare blaze near Cat Lake First Nation and a 70‑hectare fire near Fry Lake.

Suppression efforts involve more than a dozen fire‑ranger crews, multiple Type‑2 crews, helicopters, and CL‑415 water‑bombers conducting aerial drops. Airspace around the fires is restricted by NOTAMs to protect firefighting aircraft. Provincial authorities have closed parts of Quetico Provincial Park due to fire activity, and fire crews continue to establish hose lines and bucketing operations to contain hotspots.
